You Can’t Always Get What You Want, but if You Try Sometime, You Just Find , You Get What You Need… (Mick Jager)

I was after Short-eared owls in an old farm field in Allamuchy, NJ on Saturday as snow squalls kicked in. I was hoping to get that infamous "snow-flight-owl-shot". I saw some shorties during the last hour of light, but they never presented close enough to get the "shot". So I settled for Northern Harries sharing the same vole-ridden fields. It was amazing to have a front row seat to witness an animal with the "chops" necessary to fight off gusting 28 degree snowfall while hunting for the tiniest of critters. A bird with enough visual acuity to see, and listen, for the slightest rustling of a 2-ounce mammal under 6-inches of snow.

And they say we're evolutions most advanced species............... I don't think so.
