People often ask me, “Blaine, what is it you do for a living again?”

It’s an answer without a mononym. I guess you could say I’m an Enviro-EcoConsultant. I’m formally educated as a biologist but have a long career within the many subdivisions of the broader environmental sciences. I’ve worked in both the public and private sectors, I’ve been civically educated through participation in my old home towns public trusts. I’ve worked for watershed associations, land trusts, private consulting firms, and private landowners. I started my own consulting firm in 1996 where I was professionally engaged in predominantly civic cases involving development involving threatened and endangered species and land use regulation. Now I’m a restoration ecologist and senior ecologist with a large 750-employee consulting firm - GZA, GeoEnvironmental. I’ve cut my teeth in the business while working with folks from US Fish and Wildlife Service and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protections Endangered Nongame Species Program. This has allowed me to interface with some of the best and brightest in the field of conservation biology. Working with professional zoologists and ecologic practitioners has opened up many opportunities to expand my reach as a nature photographer as well, many image examples that grace this website have been an consequence of these interactions. I’ve also had the privilege of working with some of the more astute professional engineers, land use lawyers, and land use Practioners in the state. I’ve produced white papers with some top academics in their respective fields and continue to participate in species-specific research projects. You could say I have a well-rounded background in the ecological sciences with emphasis on New Jersey’s Land Use Regulation . Crazy thing is their is still much to learn.

This page is a celebration of my career as a EcoConsultant developed in the hopes that I can inspire a new generation of land stewards, restoration ecologists and abject biophilacs!
