Snapping Turtles

While performing a vegetative analysis of a site that GZA, GeoEnvironmental remediated of lead at a Gun Range in Northern New Jersey - Jurassic Park entered stage left. Two female snapping turtles were taking advantage of a tall mound - (12') - of lose soil where they dropped 20-40 creamy white, ping-pong ball size eggs. These were gingerly placed in a burrow dug out with their dinosaur-like back legs and claws. An hour later the leviathans were gone. Undetected, they slithered their way back into wetlands associated with a nearby brook where they likely won't be seen again until the following June. Too cool for school!
