Antlers

Antlers are the fastest growing bone in nature. For whitetail deer bucks, legumes like red and white clover, combined with calcium and phosphorus rich forbs, equal beautiful racks. The image herein was taken on a 6-mile long barrier spit of land off the coast of New Jersey known as Sandy Hook. Probably a third year buck coming into his prime. Sandy Hook is an exceptional natural area where whitetail density is quite high. All the ingredients that make up a healthy herd are there - the dense cover of holly forests, combined with open herby dune edges and grass lawns associated with the old coastguard barrack's. If you're a wildlife photographer Sandy Hook is the equivalent of a free space in bingo.
